What you missed at Microfinance and Microbrews last night

August 6, 2008 1 Comment

So you decided to walk along Alki last night enjoying a balmy summer evening. Or maybe you were out of town. Or maybe you just forgot to set a reminder on your calendar.

In any case, you might want to skip this post, because you’re going to kick yourself for missing Microfinance and Microbrews last night.

Lea Werbel gave an excellent presentation on Grameen’s Village Phone, including profiles of three micro-entrepreneurs and a demonstration of the equipment they use to reach distant communities.

You also missed a chance to catch up with Cheryl Sesnon, the Executive Director of Washington Cash, a local organization that’s been doing microfinance for decades.

Or what about Kushal Chakrabarti, the president of Siksha. Their microfinance project is in development, and so he’s being coy about how exactly it will work, but be sure to check it out.

Needless to say, there wasn’t a person in the room not excited about the prospects for microfinance, and how our community in Seattle can contribute to it’s development.
