Position: Foundations Officer (Part-time)

Location: Seattle, Washington

Reports to: Chief Development Officer

Founded in 1994, Global Partnerships (GP) is a rapidly growing nonprofit organization whose mission is to expand opportunity for people living in poverty. We invest socially motivated capital and strategic philanthropy to support the growth of microfinance institutions, thereby creating jobs and expanding income for people living in poverty throughout Latin America. We also seek innovative opportunities to increase the impact of microfinance through deeper outreach to underserved groups and provision of complementary services such as health and education. With offices in Seattle, Washington and Managua, Nicaragua, GP currently has $34 million invested in 21 partners in six countries, reaching 745,000 microcredit borrowers and impacting 3.4 million lives.

The Foundations Officer will be responsible for securing grants to support Global Partnerships’ programs. As a member of the development team, the Foundations Officer will participate in fundraising events and activities. This is an on-site, part-time position (20 hours / week) with benefits available and potential for this to evolve into a 40 hours / week job in the next 12 – 18 months.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Identify, qualify, cultivate and solicit foundations to raise support for operations, microfinance programs and special initiatives
  • Maintain a tracking and evaluation system for all foundation activity
  • With the Chief Development Officer manage foundation relationships including regular communications and delivery of on-time, accurate reports to foundations
  • Stay current on trends in grant making and share knowledge with the program staff regarding initiatives that are likely to attract foundation support
  • Participate in MFI field visits with Managua-based performance analysts from time to time.
  • Execute writing assignments related to fund development as needed

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates a passion for GP’s mission and commitment to GP’s values of respect, collaboration, and professional excellence
  • Minimum 5 years experience as a grant writer / foundations officer
  • Demonstrated success in securing foundation gifts of $500,000 or more
  • Working knowledge of current trends in fund development, especially with respect to international giving
  • Experience with or strong understanding of microfinance, social enterprise, and/or international development
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment
  • Strong computer skills including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
  • Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge is preferred
  • Proficiency/fluency in Spanish is preferred
