Jolkona.org: Leveraging Micro-Donations for Macro-Impact

July 2, 2009 No Comments

Jolkona Foundation is a new non-profit organization that uses technology to engage people in giving back, with a special focus on young people as potential donors.   Unlike other non-profits that use technology to help raise funds for other causes, Jolkona Foundation focuses on giving users a one-to-one impact and an individualized proof of impact that you can see.  Moreover, Jolkona Foundation sends 100% of pledged donations directly to the partner non-profits.  Jolkona gives donors choices, convenience, and the ability to see the impact one can have on the world with various “microdonation” options between starting at $5.00 listed on the website.

cofoundersI first met Adnan and Nadia, the dynamic husband and wife team who founded Jolkona, at our event in March. They have everything you need to be successful in starting a nonprofit: talent, passion, energy, and the identification of a need to fulfill.

Jolkona Foundation first released the beta version of the website in October of 2008 and in June 2009 officially launched the website with 40 projects in 25 countries around the world.  Since then, donations they have raised for partner non-profits have planted over 2,000 trees, educated  10 girls in Afghanistan for 1 year, provided a dozen prosthetic limbs and physical therapy for disabled Bangladeshis, and supplied 200+ books for a library in rural Tibet.
